About the EVCOM Clarion Awards
The Diversity and Inclusion category awards films that promote tolerance, diversity and inclusion.
Winning in this category means so much to us. It highlights the importance of using film to tell real stories, challenge inequality, and ultimately spark change.

What is Closing the Gap?
Closing the Gap was created in collaboration with Team PAU, a free initiative dedicated to breaking down social barriers in junior cycling. Access to elite coaching, equipment, and events is often dictated by cost, something PAU is on a mission to change.
To bring this message to life, we followed the journey of young riders at one of the UK’s toughest youth cycling events – the Junior Tour of Mendip. The result? A film that’s fast-paced, energetic, and packed with emotion, balancing exhilarating race footage with the inspiring stories behind the riders.

The Impact
Closing the Gap has already made waves across the junior cycling community:
- 6,100+ full episode views on YouTube
- 36,500+ reach on Instagram for the teaser alone
- 4,200 minutes of trailer watch time
- Conversations sparked, and a growing community of young cyclists reaching out to Team PAU with their own stories
The project has also helped cement Team PAU as a leading voice in junior cycling – proof that when we champion accessibility and inclusion, real change follows.
Our Creative Approach
Our brief was clear: make the world of competitive cycling feel more inclusive and accessible, without losing the thrill of the sport. To do that, we:
- Collaborated closely with the TeamPAU team to fully understand the values behind their initiative
- Wove together cinematic race content with emotive storytelling to inspire and inform
- Featured personal stories – including an appearance from Sir Bradley Wiggins, whose insights helped drive connection and reach
From shaping the narrative to managing the complexities of filming in fast-moving outdoor environments, this project was a true team effort and one we’re immensely proud of.

Why This Matters
Cycling, like many sports, can be a powerful outlet for confidence, discipline, and self-expression. But too often, the sport is out of reach for those without the right kit or connections.
This film proves that storytelling can play a vital role in creating visibility and levelling the playing field. Closing the Gap isn’t just about cycling – it’s about opportunity, passion, and the power of believing in young people, no matter their background.

A Proud Moment
To receive an award that recognises our role in promoting diversity and inclusion through film is an honour. A huge thank you to the incredible young riders, Team PAU and our brilliant crew at Reels in Motion for helping bring this vision to life.
We have more content in the works with team PAU as we document the 2025 cycling season. So keep an eye out for those coming very soon.
