Since 2018, Reels in Motion has proudly partnered with The National House Project (NHP), a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) dedicated to supporting young people as they leave the care system. Working alongside local authorities, NHP develops initiatives that help care leavers build the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to move towards independence and secure permanent housing.

One such initiative, Alan’s Story, is a project we’re especially proud to have brought to life.

Alan, a young care leaver with a passion for photography, applied for NHP’s Aspirational Awards programme – a fund designed to support care-experienced young people in pursuing their dreams. Thanks to this support, Alan received funding for professional training and equipment, giving him the tools he needed to launch his photography career.

Alan has since gone on to achieve remarkable success. His journey has even taken him back to his birthplace in Peru, where he was able to reconnect with his heritage, a powerful and personal milestone.

We worked closely with Alan to tell his story with care, authenticity, and creativity. The film blends evocative Peruvian music, camera shutter soundscapes, and Alan’s own voiceover narration to create a heartfelt and cinematic portrait of his journey.

Both Alan and the NHP were thrilled with the final result, and we’re honoured to have played a part in sharing such an inspiring story. This project is a true testament to the life-changing impact of the NHP’s work and to the power of storytelling in shining a light on it.
